Mount Cornizzolo: a convenient weekend hike near Milan

This weekend, I had prior commitments that prevented me from dedicating enough time to reach a distant mountain or tackle a hike that required several hours to complete. For this reason, I decided to revisit a very convenient location near Milan, just about 50 minutes away, where a three-hour loop trail allows you to summit Mount Cornizzolo.

I had hiked this trail before, and while the peak is not particularly high, it offers stunning 360-degree views of the entire Triangolo Lariano region, as well as a distant glimpse of Monte Rosa.

Trail Notes

The trail, following the route I took, is very manageable up to the summit. The ascent is gradual, with only a few short sections of steeper inclines. Overall, the path is well-marked and easy to follow. However, the descent on the opposite side is steeper, with a broken and somewhat exposed trail that requires a fair amount of caution. A basic level of experience and confidence on such terrain is definitely recommended for a safe descent.
