This time, we ventured back to the summit of Mount Resegone via an unusual path, so rarely traveled that in the initial stretch, not only did we not encounter any other hikers, but often the vegetation, mostly composed of thorny shrubs, had encroached upon the trail, requiring us to endure a few scratches to follow the route.
This was because we opted for a “lower” trail from Brumano that led us towards the beginning of the ridge. The idea was precisely to traverse the entire crest, eventually ascending to the summit of Resegone.
Once we reached the crest of the Orobian ridge, the landscape before us was truly magnificent. The Grigne peaks gleamed beside us, while the iconic silhouette of Resegone towered ahead.
Charming was the installation of a door, positioned in the middle of nowhere, through which one could glimpse Resegone.
Upon reaching the foothills of Mount Resegone, after replenishing our energy, we began the final exertion of the day. At one point, it became necessary to don crampons, as the snow on the north face of the mountain was still abundant and, now melting, posed more danger than usual. Even with crampons, stability was not entirely assured.
Upon reaching the summit, the spectacle was as breathtaking as ever. The view of the lake and the mountains of the Larian Triangle was truly satisfying. A well-deserved break at the Azzoni refuge was obligatory before descending back to the car park.
About the trail
The trail presents a moderate difficulty level. The route we undertook involves a relatively significant elevation gain, so a decent level of fitness is necessary. Particularly, the final ascent on melting snow requires proper equipment and experience.
