Mount Vulture is an extinct volcano located in the northern part of the province of Potenza, in Basilicata. I had been wanting to go hiking on this mountain for a while, as its distant view reminded me of the profile of Mount Resegone.
Unfortunately, despite finding several potential hiking trails online and on digital platforms, when we arrived at the base of the mountain, we encountered an incredible situation: all the trails were closed. We initially tried to bypass the first closure, which was a safety tape already broken by other hikers or the wind.
However, we soon came across more substantial closures, complete with actual gates and fences that prevented access, unless we wanted to complicate our lives and perform acrobatics. We decided not to proceed further, especially because we weren’t sure why the trails had been closed. Instead, we settled for a short walk with some aerial footage taken with a drone.+
About the trail
The part of the trail we managed to explore was quite easy and suitable for anyone.
