We decided to return to Resegone, this time taking an unprecedented and unusual route, challenging but immensely rewarding. Starting from the parking lot near the cable car station, we indulged in a hearty breakfast of coffee and apple cake before boarding the first daily ride of the cable car at 8:30 am to reach the starting point of our trek.
We embarked on the path that circumnavigates Resegone, beginning from the northern side where icy tongues occasionally required the use of crampons.
Upon reaching the intersection with the trail ascending from Brumano, we opted for the climb leading to Punta Cermenati, the highest peak of the massif, home to the Azzoni refuge. Ice was prevalent along this stretch, necessitating the use of crampons throughout.
After a brief break, where we enjoyed a hot tea, we resumed the trail that would complete our journey around Resegone. We passed by the eponymous Resegone Refuge, then the mountain Hut of Alpinisti Monzesi, before returning to Piani D’Erna, where we could catch the cable car back to the parking lot.
About the trail
The trek itself isn’t particularly technically challenging. The main difficulties revolve around icy patches that can become hazardous if individuals aren’t properly equipped. Nonetheless, it remains a demanding trek, with nearly 1,300 meters of elevation gain over approximately 17 kilometers, necessitating a good level of fitness.
