The Ossola Valley is a vast region located in the Province of Verbano-Cusio-Ossola. This valley encompasses a significant portion of the hydrographic basin of the River Toce and includes seven main lateral valleys: Valle Anzasca, Valle Antrona, Val Bognanco, Val Divedro, Valle Antigorio, Valle Isorno, and Val Vigezzo. Furthermore, Val Formazza, which represents the upper part of Valle Antigorio, is an integral part of this same orographic system.
The central convergence point of this entire area is Domodossola, with other important populated centers including Villadossola, Crevoladossola, Ornavasso, and Mergozzo. This territory comprises 37 municipalities and is home to a population of approximately 66,500 people, making it the second most densely populated valley in Piedmont, after the Susa Valley.
About the trail
The trail proved to be easy and not very steep, quite enjoyable and suitable even for less experienced hikers. During our journey through this region, we had the opportunity to explore two captivating mountain lakes and visit three mountain huts: Lake Ragozza, Lake Arza, and the Gattascosa, Dosso, and San Bernardo mountain huts.
