It hasn’t been long since I traversed the central stages of the Sentiero Roma. The memory of exhaustion and sore feet is still vivid in my mind. However, this time, we embarked on what would be the initial leg, a path that is entirely accessible to all, leading from the Novate Mezzola parking area, a town just north of Lake Como, to Rifugio Brasca, along the breathtaking Val Codera.
The trail is straightforward and suitable even for less experienced hikers. Nevertheless, if one intends to complete the hike in a single day, it covers approximately 22 kilometers round trip. Therefore, a good level of fitness is required to avoid taking more than the 7-8 hours needed to finish the journey.
About the trail
The path mainly traces an unsealed road, spacious to accommodate small motorized vehicles. Prior to reaching Rifugio Brasca, you will encounter two additional rest areas: Osteria Alpina and Rifugio Bresciadega. The elevation gain is just over 1,000 meters, but apart from the very beginning of the route, the ascent is evenly spread and almost unnoticeable in some sections.
